Carlito S. first came to Auberle in December 2016 when he heard of the Employment Institute from a close friend. With a desire to get a good paying job in construction and in need of a GED, Carlito enrolled himself in Auberle’s Employment Institute’s YouthBuild Program.
Auberle’s YouthBuild Program helps participants, like Carlito, not only earn a GED but provides our young people with national certification in construction: Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT). The program also focuses on training students to build affordable housing in the region and helps participants learn leadership skills and work ethic.
While at the Employment Institute, youth like Carlito have access to over 33 supportive services. When he completed YouthBuild, Carlito earned his GED and gained extensive leadership skills from his promotion to Crew Lead of Auberle’s youth-run Lawn Care and Landscaping business. Carlito also earned a Digital Work Ethics badge, demonstrating to employers that he is ready to work.
During his time in the Employment Institute, Carlito also earned five different construction certifications and completed the Driver’s Education To-Go Program. He is working on obtaining his license. With the assistance of his Case Manager, Carlito has secured his own apartment.
When asked about his future, Carlito said, “My next step is to get my driver’s license and buy a car. I want to open my own business in lawn care. Without the help of Auberle, I would not have achieved as much as I have during the past year.”
